A White Russian is a wonderful cocktail made with vodka, coffee liqueurs, and cream. The White Russian originated as a Black Russian which first appeared in 1949. The Black Russian became the White Russian with the addition of cream. The cocktails are named ‘Russia’ due to vodka being the primary ingredient but neither of them are Russian in origin. The first mention of the term “White Russian”, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, was in California’s Oakland Tribune on November 21st 1965.
